The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
measures the English Proficiency of nonnative English-speaking students
wishing to study at colleges and Universities where English is the
language of Instruction, usually in the United States and Canada. The
institution you apply to requires you to report TOEFL test scores as a
means of determining if you are prepared for your chosen program of
study in an English-speaking academic environment.
TOEFL Delivered in Two Testing Formats
TOEFL is now administered in two testing formats: computer-based and
paper-based. It is important you understand which testing program will
be offered in your country.
New TOEFL will be introduced w.e.f. April 2006 where in structure would
be eliminated & speaking will be included.

The Computer-based TOEFL Test |

TOEFL on a computer is offered in most countries throughout the world.
Under this program, each test taker will be assigned to an individual
workstation equipped with a computer and a headphone set. It is not
necessary to have previous computer experience to take the test. You
will be given all the instructions and practice needed to perform the
necessary computer tasks before the actual test begins.
The computer-based TOEFL test is available throughout the year by
appointment only. The test consists of four sections - Listening,
Structure, Reading and Writing - and total testing time is between
three-and-ahalf and four hours. You may view your score results for all
sections of the test except Writing at the test center. Score reports
are mailed approxiametely two weeks after the test.
The fee for the Computer-based TOEFL test is US$ 140.
Student would be taking NEW TOEL from September 2005 include TSE. |
The Paper-based TOEFL Test |

On the day of the test, you will be assigned a seat and given a test
book. You will mark your answers to the questions on a paper answer
sheet.
There are three sections to the paper-based TOEFL test: Listening
Comprehension Structure and Written Expression Reading Comprehension.
Total testing time is approximately three hours. Score reports are
mailed five weeks after the test. Approximately three weeks after the
test date, you may telephone your score results.
The fee for the paper-based TOEFL test is US$ 80. |
